Jeff Jiang is a first-generation American who has lived in Minnesota for more than 20 years.
I am a first-generation American who has lived in Minnesota for more than 20 years. Attracted by the greatness of the US, its freedoms and democracy, I came to the United States as an international student to pursue a graduate degree in Political Science at the University of Minnesota. My graduation in 2001 coincided with the devastating September 11 attacks on our country. As I witnessed the American people unite against terrorism and fear, I experienced the greatness of this nation in a profound way and knew I wanted to become part of this great country and people. Years later, when I was proudly swearing in as a US citizen, I put my whole heart in every line of the Oath of Allegiance.
I believe our many freedoms, constitutional rights and democratic system provide a sound structure, full of opportunities for our entire community, district and country to solve any challenges we face. By engaging and empowering all our diverse constituents, we can improve our education, economic development, civic participation, and our environment. I want to connect with all the positions and perspectives of the people I will serve, because every voice should be heard. And I will work very hard to find common ground for all of us.
I also believe that our state can be even better and stronger. I want Minnesota to be the best place for people to have families, to do business and to find unlimited opportunities for their kids. As a caring listener, a creative problem solver, an effective cross-cultural communicator, and a visionary leader, I hope you’ll support me as I dedicate myself to making our district shine in the Minnesota State Senate.
Family and Personal
I’ve been married to my wife, Nan, for more than 23 years. We have two boys, Michael and Daniel, who both study at Eden Prairie public schools, plus our furry family member, Micah the dog. Our family has lived in Eden Prairie for more than 14 years.
I enjoy a daily walk with Micah along the scenic trails of my city. I practice Chinese calligraphy and traditional painting when I have time, and I have a strong interest in art. Friends call me “Chef Jeff,” because I love to wear my chef coat and hat while cooking Chinese cuisine for special occasions. One of our favorite family activities is our annual summer stay at a lake resort in Brainerd. We love to fish.
Getting involved and service is always in my spirit because I believe building a stronger community will benefit everyone in it. I contribute my enthusiasm, vision, care and cross-cultural expertise to each organization that I have served. I am passionate about motivating younger people to love our country, plan for their future and build their characters.
